What does the Military offer us?

Many critics say that the military has way too much funding and that our soldiers shouldn't be dying over seas for senseless wars. They also say our soldiers don't deserve their raises, or their pay. There are groups who picket the funerals of our fallen heroes. And let's not forget, most soldiers are unable to get a real education or job, so they enlist.

There are many debates about the US Department of Defense and a lot of opinions about what our nations defenders roles should be, or what kind of people join the military. We, at the Average Joes, support our nations war fighters with every fiber of our being. Why? To be cliche and support the troops? Because we're war mongers that love bombing the hell out of everyone that isn't American and Christian? The answer is because serving your country is fraught with adversity, danger, and thanklessness. Because being in the military can be both rewarding and desultory. Being in the military takes allot of work and effort and staying in the military takes a drive and force of will that many people simply do not possess. Not only that but they truly fight and die for  our virtues, our livelihoods, our freedoms, and all the things we take for granted. Everyone from line cook, mechanic, medic, and infantryman play their part to ensure America's continuation, and to give them anything less than the utmost respect is the most selfish, self centered, arrogant act you as a citizen could do.

The other half of that coin is that Military members are people just like you and me. They have friends, family, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, cousins, husbands, wives, and children of their own just like everyone else in this country! They sacrifice their own livelihoods, uproot their lives at a moments notice, and do it with a stoicism that many human beings never have to find out they have until pushed to the brink. Yet, these men and women do it every day of their lives, throughout their time of service. They do it despite the protesters, despite the picketers, despite the Congressmen throwing away their lives for power, money and influence, they do it for you, for me, for America, and they ask for nothing in return.

Never Forget

Never forget their sacrifices, never forget their courage, never forget their service. The reason why we have corruption, greed, and avarice in our country is because our soldiers fought and died to provide the freedom for people to achieve greatness, seek greater heights, and attain wealth or respect of epic proportions. Likewise, public education, freedom of speech, the right to protest your government, civil disobedience, the right to vote, freedom of the press, all of these also exist due to the sacrifices of our nations military. You wouldn't be able to admonish their actions, or accuse them of being baby killers if they weren't succeeding every minute of every day in protecting your civil liberties and freedoms. You wouldn't be able to put "support our troops" stickers all over your truck if they didn't bring their all to work with them in their business of supporting this nation through grit, blood, and dedication!

We have been at war about 90% of our existence, and sure many of those conflicts need never have happened, but without our intervention in many more, this world would be a much darker and scarier place. Ideals like freedom, justice, and hope don't just die, they are suppressed until the people have had enough and strike back. That is, when wars for all the right reasons occur, that's when our nations defenders are needed most, and it is why, no matter what the conflict, no matter what the politics, we as a nation need to remember that they are just doing their job: Ensuring America's future.

Military members don't always agree with the wars they're told to fight, in fact, many would rather never fire a weapon in their lives, but that's their day to day, and it is what they must do. People lose sight of the humanity of service members, people forget that those are sons and daughters doing what they feel is their part to give back to their country that gave them so much! They are just as fallible, and caring, and give in to temptation, sorrow, anger, happiness, and joy as we are. When we organize and protest their efforts, we are in effect singling out the wrong people. If people are fed up with senseless wars and fighting, they should protest the men and women who made them happen: Congressmen, Political leaders, Defense Contractors, Corporate leaders, etc. In fact, if we had our way, we'd make those aforementioned fight their wars themselves and let our brave men and women have a much deserved rest!

Join the Initiative

We need to support our military members, and make sure they have what they need to get the job done. That doesn't mean spend trillions of dollars on wars, and weapons of war. It means, providing for their retirements, their equipment, their training, their materials, their basic pay, their education, their health care, and everything else it takes for an American soldier to do their job. The only other budget that should never ever get slashed is education. If our warfighters can't do their jobs, they can't ensure our nations security and believe us when we say that there are many countries out there that would love for America to fall. Don't let politics, and biased media blind you to that reality. There's no reason to make our service members suffer for the foolish actions of our leaders. That is why we need to unite, to combine our voice, and do what is right for our country. We cannot and will not allow this to continue. We can make a difference and we urge you to spread the message: through unity we can make a difference!
